Excellent remix alert. In fact, rare instance alert all round. Notice when there’s one of your favourite artists that has one of your favourite tunes remixed by one of your other favourite artists? Yes, favouritism overload. But apart from that, it nearly always flatters to deceive. There’s a litany of mediocre examples that would be pointless to go into, hence how forgettable they are. But I’ve got an exception to the rule right here.
Steffi isn’t neccessarily one of my favourites, but she is an extremely good DJ, who has recently made folk notice she is also capable of producing. ‘Yours’ has quickly become one of the most en vogue records out there this summer, and has been linked with a ubiquitous rapture the length and breadth of clubs over the last few months. So I hear, and so I read. The constant upward curve of its popularity has been testament to the growing appreciation ever since its release in February. Deservedly so, its a corker in its own right.
Lone, in the mean time, has been going from strength to strength, and his Emerald Fantasy Tracks is one of the best albums of the last 12 months, easily, and of any genre. He has definitely broken new ground in terms of his signature sound. That rhymed, although not neccessarily on purpose. Cowbells, 808 keys, acidy overtones, big bass kicks and an overall sense of nostalgic euphoria stemming from the early 90’s all come together to make him one of the most alluring sounding people out there now.
He’s taken this Steffi number and reworked it using his dynamic template, and it retains the best characteristics of both. One of very few good new remixes I’ve heard in a while. Synergy, I believe the term is.
